The holidays are supposed to be a time of joy, but they can also be a big blow to your health. The stress and disruption of your normal routines can ruin your holiday cheer and weaken your immune system, setting you up for a nasty January virus.
Don’t Forget to Eat
Now is not the time to worry about dieting. When you get busy, it is easy to forget to eat or feel like you don’t have time. Or maybe you are one of those people who tries to make up for indulging in all the goodies by skipping meals.
Dips in blood sugar can ruin your mood, cause fatigue, and make you feel even more stressed. Balance out those sugary treats with healthy snacks to keep you on an even keel.
Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated will also help you stay comfortable and fight fatigue. Between all the alcohol and sweet, non-alcoholic beverages floating around during the holidays, you may not realize that you are not getting enough pure water. Take bottled water along with you wherever you go and make sure you drink a glass of water for each alcoholic beverage, cup of hot chocolate, or other beverage you consume.
Find a Way to Get Some Physical Activity
If you have a regular exercise routine, missing it can mean more than a setback. It can make you stressed and angry. If you are travelling or just plain busy, your regular routine is probably off the table, but you can still find creative ways to get some physical activity.
Simply taking a walk can help take the edge off. A busy host might appreciate it if you play fetch with the dog or take their kids to the park, with permission of course. If you are hosting out-of-town guests, try taking them on a walking tour of your city or to see the Christmas lights in your neighborhood.
